Jim shared the gospel with my father, Dave Bovenmyer at Iowa State University. He married my parents in 1975.

  2. Miss Current says:

Thanks D. Bovenmyer! Good to hear!

I wish to hear any good deed Jim has done after 1986, but have yet to hear one. I wish even more to hear of good deeds Jim will do in 2007 and beyond!!!! I am concerned though that, that will be later rather than sooner…if at all. That is what we are pulling for.

  3. dbovenmyer says:

I’m sorry but I can’t help you much with the 1986 and beyond. I personally have seen Jim only once since then, and it was very brief and formal.

  4. penault says:

I have to wonder by what authority McCotter married your parents, Daniel? Did he have the legal right to do so?

  5. Samuel Lopez De Victoria, Ph.D. says:

    Legal Right?

As long as you are ordained by a church body/organization, etc. and you fill the proper papers with a witness that a wedding ceremony ocurred… that along with the marriage license, typically legitimizes as legal the marriage.

  6. Dan Bovenmyer says:

    LOL! ….Hi Sam!

  7. The Clone says:

In Minnesota IF a marriage is done in “good faith by the party” even if the pastor is a fraud, (i.e. McCotter) the marriage is legal and binding.

I forgot to mention that I first started in ISU Bible Study in 1974 and was there about 10 years.

Why do you care? Why don’t you move on? “Love does not keep a record a wrongs.”

Jim was one of the major positive spiritual influences in my life when I came to know the Lord in 1975 and for about seven years after that. I’m still guided by many things he taught. He was in no way a “fraud.” Yes, he made mistakes. I’m glad people haven’t put up websites as a constant reminder of my mistakes, i.e. “accusing the brethren day and night.”

  10. Ray says:

Jim McCotter was a positive influence in my life at the University of Maryland during the 1980’s. I’m sure he has made mistakes as I have too. Let’s move on… nothing to see here.

Jim hired me in Melbourne fl 10 years ago and I was thankful. Unfortunately, he laid and most of the staff off 3 weeks later.
